Fersan Tekstil is a vertically integrated polyester knitting and dyeing mill in Çorlu, Türkiye, producing roughly 750 tonnes a month of knitted and dyed fabric since 1982.

Almost every metre of knitted fabric used in Saudi Arabia arrives from somewhere else, and the companies consuming it are concrete and identifiable: uniform houses supplying government and corporate contracts, workwear makers serving construction and industry, school-uniform suppliers, medical-scrub manufacturers and a growing sportswear segment. What those manufacturers need from a mill is not a catalogue. It is a fabric that survives the climate, a colour that repeats across a multi-year contract, and paperwork that clears customs without the shipment sitting at the port.

That last part is where most fabric suppliers go quiet, so we will be specific. Knitted and crocheted fabric — the whole of HS Chapter 60 — is listed in Annex 1 of the Saudi Technical Regulation for Textile Products, SASO 02-05-18-164. That means your consignment needs a Shipment Certificate of Conformity, issued against a Product Certificate of Conformity that is valid for a year, and both are handled through the SABER platform. The SABER account belongs to you, the importer, because it is tied to your commercial registration — a foreign mill cannot register on your behalf. What the mill can do is supply the technical file the registration is built on: test reports, composition and construction data, and shipment documentation. That is precisely what we provide, and it is the part that usually causes the delay.

Note also that the assessment route is not uniform across textile categories. General textiles sit on a documentation-and-test-report route, while children’s textiles and undergarments fall under a stricter type that includes a manufacturing-facility audit — which matters directly if school uniforms are in your programme. Confirm the current route for your commodity code with your conformity assessment body, because the regulation has been under revision.

Does OEKO-TEX replace SABER? No — but it shortens the file

Our fabrics carry OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification issued by Hohenstein, which tests against the same families of harmful substances that the regulation’s chemical annex addresses. That is genuinely useful when the technical file is assembled, because a substantial part of the substance testing already exists and is independently issued. It is not a substitute: SABER is a separate registration with its own certificates, and any supplier telling you an OEKO-TEX certificate clears Saudi customs is misinforming you. Treat it as a head start on the dossier, not a replacement for it.

Fabric that suits the climate and the contract

Two things drive uniform fabric selection here, and they pull in different directions. Heat and humidity argue for moisture management and breathability — wicking finishes, open mesh structures in panels, lighter weights. Contract life argues for the opposite: dimensional stability through repeated industrial laundering, colour fastness that holds across a multi-year re-order, and pilling resistance on garments worn daily. Interlock answers the stability side and gives the flattest ground available in polyester knits for sublimation printing; piqué carries the polo programme; rib handles collars and cuffs in a matched dye lot; moisture-managed dry-fit constructions handle the performance panels. Which balance is right depends on the contract, and that is a conversation rather than a product code.

Colour that repeats across a multi-year programme

A uniform contract is not judged on the first delivery but on whether year three still matches year one. Colour is approved by lab-dip before bulk production, and we hold the recipe. Dimensional stability, colour fastness and pilling are reported per order rather than asserted once at the start of a relationship. If your tender carries a specific test protocol, produce it and we will manufacture to it.

60 × 40 × 30 cm, 20 kg carton, 40' container. Box volume = 0.6 × 0.4 × 0.3 = 0.072 m³. By volume = floor(67.57 ÷ 0.072) = 938 · By weight = floor(26,600 ÷ 20) = 1,330. Count = min(938, 1,330) = 938 (volume is the limit). Load = 938 × 20 = 18,760 kg. Fill ≈ 100% (theoretical). Real stowage drops this because of pallet gaps and orientation.

How many rolls fit in a 40' container?

It depends on the roll/carton size and weight. A 40' container offers ≈ 67.57 m³ and a 26,600 kg payload limit; the tool divides those by your box volume and weight, then takes the smaller. For a 0.072 m³, 20 kg carton that is an estimated 938 units.

What is the difference between a 20' and a 40'?

A 20' container carries ≈ 33.14 m³ / 28,200 kg, a 40' ≈ 67.57 m³ / 26,600 kg. The 40' gives roughly double the volume but a similar payload limit — so for heavy cartons the binding limit is often weight, not volume.

Why choose a 40' HC?

A 40' HC (High Cube) is 30 cm taller than a standard 40' (2.69 m interior height), giving ≈ 76.04 m³. It is preferred for light but bulky fabric rolls because it allows one more stacking layer.

Why is the result estimated?

Weight, composition and finish are set by the garment and the contract; the structures below are the usual starting points for uniform and workwear programmes. Does polyester knitted fabric actually require SABER certification?

Yes. Annex 1 of the Technical Regulation for Textile Products (SASO 02-05-18-164) lists knitted or crocheted fabric across the whole of HS Chapter 60, which covers single jersey, interlock, rib, piqué, mesh and fleece. In practice that means a Product Certificate of Conformity valid for one year, plus a Shipment Certificate of Conformity for every consignment.

Who applies for the SABER certificate — you or us?

You do, as the importer. The SABER account is tied to a Saudi commercial registration, so a foreign mill cannot hold it on your behalf. What we do is supply the technical file the application rests on: test reports, composition and construction data, and the shipment documentation. In our experience that is where the delay usually sits, which is why we prepare it as part of the order rather than after you ask.

We hold your OEKO-TEX certificate. Is that enough for customs?

No, and you should be careful with any supplier who says otherwise. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 tests against the same harmful-substance families the regulation addresses, so it does real work in assembling the dossier — but SABER is a separate registration with its own certificates, and only those clear the consignment.

Which knit structures suit Saudi uniform and workwear contracts?

Interlock is the usual backbone: it does not curl at the edge, it holds pattern measurements through industrial laundering, and its double-face surface is the flattest ground in polyester knits for sublimation printing. Piqué carries polo programmes, rib handles collars and cuffs dyed in the same lot as the body fabric, and moisture-managed dry-fit constructions go into performance panels where heat is the constraint. The right balance depends on the laundering regime and the contract length.

What is the minimum order, and how does sampling work?
